Three Years of The Wijn House

This Saturday, September 21st we are excited to celebrate three years of operation at The Wijn House! We hope you'll join us for: 

• Free tastings from Fireside & Ackerman Wineries
• A chocolate fountain! from VanVeens Chocolates
• $3 glasses of wine all day long 
• Other surprises we think up between now & then 

Three years is both a very long slog and a blink of an eye.  We still remember the trepidation (mostly from Jeremy) and the excitement (mostly from Tara) of opening a small business. There were long nights of tearing up flooring, painting, remodeling and wondering what we had gotten ourselves into.  When we opened our doors we had a humble 500 bottle inventory from 7 Iowa wineries, and only a guess at how this whole thing was going to work. It seems almost laughable today as we generally stock about 2,000 bottles from 40 wineries & cideries around the state.

It's been a lot of work, but also a lot of fun: meeting customers, business owners and wine makers from around the state and beyond. We even managed to win back-to-back Iowa Wine Growers Association "Retailer of the Year" awards in 2018 & 2019 to start our trophy case!
