The Cellar At White Oak

This week we're tasting wines from The Cellar at White Oak. The "White Oak" location is made up of two separate, but mutually beneficial entities that share the same building:  

• The Chateau at White Oak:  A beautiful and large entertainment space, perfect for weddings and other celebrations.  
• The Cellar at White Oak: A relatively young Iowa winery under it's current owner and wine-making team. 

The property near Cambridge, Iowa is surrounded by a creek and vineyard and is an easy drive from Des Moines or Ames. 

The current owners of The Cellar winery started growing grapes in their backyard and produced their first bottles wine for self-consumption in 2014. Their first retail production was 2016 and they hit The Wijn House shelves in late 2017.  Its always exciting tasting a winery that's so early in it's growth, expect each year's vintages to have new flavors as the winemaker refines the the winery's wine list.

The Cellar wines are made with cold-climate grapes either from their own vineyards or those nearby, they try very hard to use as local of a product as possible to produce their wines.  Familiar Midwest varietals (a fancy name for "kinds of grapes") include: Marquette, Frontenac, Edelweiss & Brianna and more as well as a few blends.
