One of our absolute favorite parts of owning The Wijn House is hitting the road to meet the incredible people behind Iowa wine. There’s something special about hearing their stories, learning what inspires them, and of course sampling a few wines along the way.

Recently, Richard and I had the pleasure of visiting with Dan and Maureen Boddicker, the owners of Red Cedar Wines (@redcedarwinesbar ) in Vinton, Iowa, and we are excited to share their wines with you!
Their story is one of passion, perseverance, and a dream years in the making. Dan has been crafting wine for more than 22 years, and in August 2025, that dream became reality when he began producing and serving his own wines at their unique business.

Red Cedar Wines is tucked inside a wonderfully eclectic space that combines The Niche antique store with a cozy wine bar. The moment you walk in, you're surrounded by character, charm, and treasures waiting to be discovered. It's the kind of place where you can lose track of time while sipping wine, browsing antiques, and enjoying great conversation.

What we loved most? Dan and Maureen's commitment to supporting Iowa wine. Not only do they proudly serve their own small batch, handcrafted wines, but they also feature wines from other Iowa wineries, helping showcase the amazing talent found throughout our state. 

Of course, we sampled their wines (a tough job, but somebody has to do it ) along with several other Iowa wines we hadn't had the chance to try before. Every visit reminds us just how much talent and passion exists within Iowa's wine community.
